Zoning Ordinance

Zoning & Land Use Maps

The Zoning Map is a visual representation of the zoning classifications across Kane County, Illinois. The 2040 Future Land Use Map is a planning tool used by County to outline how land is intended to be used in the future. It serves as a visual guide for decision-making about development, zoning, and infrastructure investments, reflecting community goals for growth, preservation, and community services. The map categorizes areas for residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and recreational purposes, helping to shape a sustainable and organized vision for the community's long-term development.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) makes recommendations to the County Board regarding zoning map amendments and special uses, as well as text amendments to the Kane County Zoning Ordinance. The ZBA also has the authority to grant variations to certain requirements such as lot sizes, frontage requirements and setbacks.
