Naperville Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Drop-off

The Naperville Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off is one of four statewide locations (see Alternate Facilities below). Since opening in 1998 and up to 2019, the Naperville facility has collected over 2 million​ pounds of hazardous materials from 44,370 Kane County Residents.

This facility is funded in partnership by the Illinois EPA, DuPage County, Kane County, Will County, and the Cities of Aurora and Naperville.​

All Illinois residents may use this site regardless of county or municipal location, but it is for waste generated through household/residential operations​ (i.e., no business waste is accepted). ​​

  • Stay in your vehicle! This is for your safety.
  • Clearly mark items in your trunk as HHW material.
  • Please only bring accepted items to help expedite the collection process.

  • New, August 2024: Nicotine-containing vape devices and cartridges (no THC or CBD​ vapes)
  • Aerosol cans
  • Automotive fluids (including oil, gasoline and anti-freeze) Gasoline containers can be returned to you once emptied by attendant. 
  • Asbestos materials (in a size that will fit in a 55-gallon drum and not in excess of 50 pounds)
  • Batteries (automotive, marine, sump pump and non-alkaline rechargable)
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Flammables
  • Fluorescent bulbs, CFLs (sealed, unbroken only)
  • Household cleaners, drain openers and pool chemicals
  • Mercury
  • Paints and stains (oil-based only)
  • Peanut oil/fry oil
  • Poison, pesticides and fertilizers
  • Non-controlled (non-DEA listed) ​prescription and over-the-counter medications
  • Propane tanks up to 20 lbs.
  • Solvents and strippers
  • Thermostats
  • Unknown hazardous substances

Location: 1150 N. Branch St., Chicago, IL
Hours: Tuesdays: 7am-12pm; Thursdays: 2pm-7pm; 1st Saturday of the month: 8am-3pm.

Location: 1311 N Estes St., Gurnee, IL (Please use Rt 41 to Delany Rd (North) to Grove (East) to Estes.
Hours: Year round, twice a month: 2nd & 4th Saturday of every month​ (except December).
